This class is a literature-based course featuring a “living book”, as referred to by CharlotteMason. The book is read aloud in class and used as the base for insights into social studies, languagearts and geography. Included in class time is an activity that supports the lesson or focus of the book.These books will become fast favorites of the children who will want to return to them again and againthus enriching their lives. Another facet of this course are memory helps from rhymes, jingles and songsthat will turn on their linguistic light bulbs when the time is right, enabling reading and spelling todevelop with less bumps in the road. This course is designed to teach the building blocks of math and science in a fun andeasy way through experiments and memorization. Your child will be amazed at how quickly math willcome with these facts tucked away through songs, rhymes and chants as we focus on applied mathconcepts. Science won’t seem so lofty to achieve when broken down each week through activities thatare simple yet engaging for them do, experience or witness. This Classical Studies class embraces the concept of educating the whole child in the areas of ancient history, geography, art, music (hymns and folk songs), poetry and scripture memorization. This class will enable the students to move forward in their educational journey with foundational tools of learning, as well as encourage a love of learning.

1st & 2nd: phonics
The students in Phonics will learn to recognize and write all 26 letters, plus an additional 26 phonograms (blends and other letter combinations). Throughout the semester, the students will become familiar with introductory spelling rules and early grammar which will aid in syllabication and sounding out words. They will be encouraged to practice reading daily at home. By the end of the class, students will be able to read and spell short words with short and long vowel sounds.

They will also explore a range of topics such as human DNA, cell anatomy, and the body systems through the curriculum filled with vivid graphics, interactive lessons, and hands-on projects. God made the human body wonderfully, and in this course, your student will explore the intricate and amazing design of the human body, from head to toe.

This class will combine an age-appropriate discussion of music as a reflection of the culture with music theoryand fundamentals and choral singing. Students in this class will acquire an understanding of the beauty ofmusic and its ability to communicate ideas as well as emotions. Additionally, students will train their ears tomatch pitch and harmonize with others in the choir. The student choir will perform a few song selections nearthe end of the semester.

Students will be writing regularly to practice writing and speaking in front of their class regularly to practice their rhetoric skills. This class will also utilize a daily grammar book to teach the parts of speech and parsing. In addition to the course texts, fairy tales from around the world will also be read in class to practice the skills of narration, analysis, and to teach literary concepts such as: themes, alliteration, perspective, similes/metaphors, and personification.

This course will be uniquely designed for CCA students. This class will be set up to review all math facts, definitions, etc. that students will need concreted in their minds as they advance to higher forms of mathematics such as Algebra, Algebra II, and Geometry. Each month will feature a particular concept: fractions, decimals, percentages, basic algebraic sentences, etc. Part of the distinctiveness of this class is the first part of the class will be spent with the students presenting any problem they had with their own math curriculum during the week, and the tutor will walk through the solution to the problem. The other part of the class will be presenting that month's review of math concepts. CCA is expecting this course to make a huge difference in our students being prepared for higher level math classes.

This will be year one from Steadfast curriculum that introduces students to the concept of worldview and to the big philosophical questions of life. Steadfast teaches students to think crtitically about what they believe and why they believe it, and it steers them toward absolute truth as prescribed in God's Word in their search for the answers to life's questions. The course examines the beginnings of Western Civilization and the worldviews that shaped it, always evaluating them in the light of a biblical worldview. Students trace the origins of Judiasm and Christianity and see history as a meaningful progression toward the fulfillment of God's plan. This class will study the principles of correct reasoning. To be logical is to think rightly, and to draw reasonable conclusions from the available information. Why does logic matter, and who decides what the "right" way to think? If two people disagree on whether something is reasonable, who is correct? What is the standard by which we judge a particular line of reasoning to be correct or incorrect? In the Christian worldview, we can answer these questions because we know that God determines the correct way to reason. He is the standard for all truth claims. The students in this class will learn the basic laws of logic, informal logic fallicies, and more.

5th - 12th: Music appreciation/ Choir
Music students will learn note reading skills through singing and the use of Orff instruments. Additionally, by playing these instruments, the students will be exposed to playing with a group of other players and singers.
